Iconic landmark under threat
Its iconic image is used in publicity material both by private enterprise and the public sector. It is not only the building itself but also its setting - surrounded by pleasant rolling countryside and woodland - which contribute to its status as a monument of national importance.
All this will change if Stratford District Council’s adopted Core Strategy Plan is approved by a Government planning inspector after a forthcoming examination in public. Despite alternative brownfield sites being available, the council has adopted the Gaydon/ Lighthorne Heath option.

Hide AdThis will result in the greenfield land which forms the pastoral backdrop to the Windmill being blanketed with 3,000 houses which will extend to the southern and eastern horizons and destroy the rural setting of the Windmill forever.
